Food and Beverage Ontario, through the Taste Your Future program, is engaging young people to think of the food and beverage processing sector as a great place for employment.
There is an incredible variety of education opportunities and virtually every type of professional career from accounting to engineering is represented in the sector along with specialty positions from food scientist to brew master. There are also positions at all skill levels, in the private and public sectors, at global companies and family businesses, non-profit organizations, academic institutions and more.
The Taste Your Future program is focused on engaging with people especially young people to get them thinking about how their skills and talents can be applied to the food and beverage sector, highlight the variety of careers that are available and how students can bring their skills and interests to the sector. The Stir Up a Career in Food and Beverage Processing Contest (the “Contest”) is one proven way of engaging and incenting youth to join the food and beverage community.

Rules and Regulations
- NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. You are eligible to enter and win the Contest if you are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant enrolled full-time in an Ontario high school in Grades 9-12 or if you are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in an Ontario community college or university.
- Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled full-time in an Ontario high school in Grades 9-12 are eligible for the high school category.
- Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled full-time in an Ontario community college or university are eligible for the post-secondary category.
- Employees, and the immediate family members or employees, of Food and Beverage Ontario or FoodGrads or affiliated or related companies, are not eligible to enter the Contest. For the purposes of these Rules, “immediate family” means parents, siblings, children, and legal or common law spouses.
- If you are under the age of 18 at the time of entry, you must have the entry form signed by a parent or legal guardian.
- The Contest begins at 12:00:01 a.m. on October 27, 2018 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. on January 15, 2019 (the “Contest Period”).
Pick Your Category
- For the purposes of the Contest, there are two (2) categories with two (2) streams in each category
- The categories are:
- High school: Open to full-time Ontario high school (Grades 9-12) students
- Post-secondary: Open to full-time Ontario community college or university undergraduates
- The streams are:
- Makers and Designers: Create or prototype a food or beverage product or significantly enhance an existing product. For example, creating new flavours, new product formulations or unique product packaging.
- Scientists, Programmers and Engineers: Develop a process, software application, tool or machine for food and/or beverage processors. For example, a way to extend the shelf life of a product, improvements to a process such as warehousing, supply chain or other industry processes.
Enter as a Team or Individually
- Contest entries can be done on an individual or team basis.
- Teams may include up to four (4) students. Team members do not need to be from the same school but must meet the eligibility requirements for their category and team.
- Teams are required to name a team representative, who will be responsible for submitting the entry form and serving as the team’s primary contact for matters related to the Contest.
- If a team is selected as a winner, the team representative will be presented the award.
- You may not participate as both an individual entrant and a team entrant.
- You may not enter more than one category or stream.
- Only one entry per person or team will be accepted during the Contest Period.
- All entries must be received on or before 11:59:59 p.m. on January 15, 2019 (the “Contest Closing Date”).
What you need to submit
- Each submission must include a completed entry form and a video of no longer than three (3) minutes in length including credits. Videos exceeding three (3) minutes will not be considered. The entry form will require your name, address, e-mail address, phone number, and details of your enrolment in a secondary or post-secondary education program to be filled out.
- The entry form is available online at tasteyourfuture.ca (English) or http://votreaveniradugout.ca/ (French) and must be submitted through that website.
- To submit your video, upload it to a video sharing platform (e.g. YouTube) and add the link in the entry form. The video must be publicly available for viewing. By entering the Contest, you provide a full and final release to any video sharing platform from any and all liability related to the Contest. You agree to, and are solely responsible for ensuring that you, comply with the terms and policies of any video sharing platform.
- Each participant hereby warrants and represents that his/her entry::
- is original to him/her;
- does not violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation;
- does not contain any reference to or likeness of any identifiable third parties, unless consent has been obtained from all such individuals and their parent/legal guardian if they are under the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence;
- will not give rise to any claims of infringement on any rights and/or interests of any third party (including, but not limited to, copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights) and must not lead to any other cause of action, including libel, defamation, privacy violation, contract breach or tort.
- is not defamatory, trade libelous, pornographic or obscene, and further that it will not contain, include, discuss or involve, without limitation, any of the following: nudity; alcohol/drug consumption or smoking; explicit or graphic sexual activity, or sexual innuendo; crude, vulgar or offensive language and/or symbols; derogatory characterizations of any ethnic, racial, sexual, religious or other groups; content that endorses, condones and/or discusses any illegal, inappropriate or risky behaviour or conduct; personal information of individuals, including, without limitation, names, telephone numbers and addresses (physical or electronic); commercial messages, comparisons or solicitations for products or services other than products of Sponsor; any identifiable third party products, trade-marks, brands and/or logos, other than those of Sponsor; conduct or other activities in violation of these Rules; and/or any other content that is or could be considered inappropriate, unsuitable or offensive, all as determined by the Contest Organizers in their sole and absolute discretion.

- Acceptable video formats are live action, screen casts, motion graphics/animation or a slideshows with voiceover. Videos may be presented in English or French.

What you need to know about your submission
- By entering the Contest and submitting an entry, each entrant: (i) grants to the Contest Organizers, in perpetuity, for no compensation, a non-exclusive, worldwide license to publish, display, reproduce, modify, edit, adapt, make available, make derivatives, edit, modify, translate, distribute, transmit, publish, license and broadcast, combine with other visual elements and otherwise use his/her entry, in whole or in part for the purpose of advertising and promoting the Contest, and for any other reason in any type of media; (ii) waives all moral rights in and to his/her entry in favour of the Contest Organizers; and (iii) agrees to release and hold harmless the Contest Organizers and each of their respective agents, employees, directors, successors, and assigns (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all claims based on publicity rights, defamation, invasion of privacy, copyright infringement, trade-mark infringement, implied endorsement, depreciation of goodwill or any other cause of action that relates in any way to his/her entry and its permitted use pursuant to these Rules. For greater certainty and the avoidance of any doubt, the Contest Organizers reserve the right, in their sole and absolute discretion and at any time, to disqualify any entry and/or the associated entrant if a complaint is received with respect to the entry, if the Contest Organizers determine, in their sole and absolute discretion, that any entry does not comply with these Rules, or for any other reason. Such entries will NOT be judged.
- All entries become the property of the Contest Organizers and none will be returned. No correspondence will be entered into except with the selected entrants.
- If necessary you must obtain all necessary permissions, licences, clearances, releases, waivers of moral rights and other approvals from third parties (including, but not limited to, all copyright holders and all individuals appearing in the video submission), necessary to use the video submission, in whole or in part, in any way, including without limitation, to reproduce, make derivatives, edit, modify, translate, distribute, transmit, publish, license and broadcast the video submission worldwide, by any means. Any and all such permissions, licences, clearances, releases, waivers of moral rights and approvals must be attached to the video submission.
- Your own personal safety and the safety of your cast, crew and others involved with the production of the video submission must be maintained. Do not endanger anyone during the making of your video.
- Each contestant (and, in the case of contestants less than 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian) must consent to the use, reproduction, publication, transmission and/or broadcasting of his/her name, address, likeness, school, age, grade and/or prize information, without compensation, in any advertisement, publication or promotion, for general news or other information purposes. Winners must also consent to their photographs being taken by the Contest Organizers for the same purposes, without further compensation.
- It is the sole responsibility of the contestant to ensure that the video is uploaded and publicly available for viewing between 9 a.m. January 31, 2019 and 11:59 p.m. and February 28, 2019 Eastern Standard Time.
- Clear description of the need or problem

- Submission demonstrates they have considered how to market the product to consumers and/or businesses
- Submission effectively communicates or demonstrate the benefits of the submission
- All eligible submissions received by the Contest Closing Date will be reviewed by the Contest Organizers.
- Finalists will be selected based on the following criteria:

- Finalists will be notified by telephone and/or email the week of February 18, 2019 and and announced on tasteyourfuture.ca, www.foodgrads.com, the Taste Your Future Facebook page, LinkedIn page, Instagram and via Twitter directly following.
- If a finalist declines the invitation to participate in the final stage of the Contest, or cannot be contacted after at least two (2) attempts by the Contest Organizers, their spot will be forfeited and may be awarded to another eligible contestant. The Contest Organizers will not be responsible for failed attempts to contact a potential finalist.
- Finalist videos will be posted on the Taste Your Future and FoodGrads YouTube channel, website and social channels. Finalists may be asked to provide their videos for download to facilitate this re-posting.
- Once posted, finalists are encouraged to promote their videos through any social media platform or by word of mouth to their networks.
- Public support for a finalist will make up 25 per cent of the points for selecting the winners in each category and stream.
- Public support will be measured by adding the number of views of the video on Taste Your Future and FoodGrads social channels plus the number of views of the video on YouTube between 9 a.m. January 31, 2019 and 12:00 am. on February 5, 2019 Eastern Standard Time.
- The judging panel will select up to four (4) winners as follows:

- In selecting the winners, the judging panel will consider the following criteria:

- The judges’ decisions on all matters relating to the Contest are final, conclusive and not open to dispute.
- Winners will be notified by telephone and/or email. All winner and finalist videos will remain on the Taste Your Future and FoodGrads YouTube channel, website and Facebook page with winner videos highlighted.
- The Contest Organizers, in their sole discretion, reserve the right to move a video from one category to another if they deem that it has been improperly designated by the contestant or if there is an insufficient number of entries in another category.
- Up to four (4) grand prizes will be awarded (the “Grand Prizes”). The approximate retail value of each Grand Prize is $2,150. Each Grand Prize will consist of:
- Prize money: $2,000 (individual or group)
- Industry mentor relationship: Each person who is part of the winning submission will be matched with an employee of an Ontario food and beverage processing company as their mentor for up to 12 months. Industry mentors will be appointed by the Contest Organizers. Every effort will be made to identify mentors in the contestant(s)’s field of study/area of interest and near their home or school. Mentoring activities may include face-to-face and/or telephone meetings, tours of the company and other activities at the discretion of the industry mentors or Contest Organizers.
- Resume coaching: Each person who is part of the winning submission will receive up to two (2) hours of resume coaching support from FoodGrads.
- Up to eight (8) finalist prizes will be awarded (the “Finalist Prizes”). The approximate retail value of each Finalist Prize is $400. Each Finalist Prize will consist of:
- Prize money: $250 (individual or group)
- Industry coaching session: The individual or team responsible for the submission will have the opportunity to meet with an employee of an Ontario food and beverage processing company to learn more about the industry. Industry coaches will be appointed by the Contest Organizers. Every effort will be made to identify coaches in the contestant(s) field of study/area of interest and near their home or school. Coaching activities may include one face-to-face meeting, a tour of the company, a presentation by the employee to the constants’ class or other activities at the discretion of the industry coach or Contest Organizers.
- Resume coaching: Each person who is part of the winning submission will receive up to two (2) hours of resume coaching support from FoodGrads.
- If the Contest Organizers, in their sole discretion, deem that an insufficient quantity or quality of entries has been received, the Contest Organizers reserve the right not to present any Grand Prizes or Finalist Prizes. The odds of winning a Prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received by the Contest Closing Date, and the number of finalists chosen.
- Any additional fees, taxes, or costs of any nature whatsoever in connection with a Grand Prize or Finalist Prize, other than those specifically stated as included herein, are the sole responsibility of the winner.
- All Prizes must be accepted as awarded, without substitution, and are not transferable or convertible to cash (unless stated otherwise).
- The Contest Organizers reserve the right, in the event that any Prize or any component of a Prize, cannot be awarded as described for any reason, to substitute any other prize or component or equal or greater value, without liability.
- The Contest Organizers will not be liable to the winner of any Prize for any guarantee, warranty, condition, or representation, express or implied, related to the Prize.
- Before being declared the winner of a Grand Prize or a Finalist Prize, the selected finalist, or the team representative, must correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, a mathematical skill-testing question posed via e-mail, courier, mail, or telephone. If the answer to the mathematical skill-testing question is incorrected, the entrant will be disqualified.
- In addition, before being declare the winner of a Grand Prize, the finalist, or each member of the team, as applicable, must sign a declaration and release form (the “Release Form”) that, among other things, confirms your compliance with these Official Rules, acceptance of the Prize as awarded, without substitution, and release of the Contest Organizers, their advertising and promotional agencies, any affiliated and related companies, and respective shareholders, members, directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors, and assigns, from any liability in connection with the Prize or the Contest. The Release Form must be returned within the time period specified on the Release Form or the Prize will be forfeited.
- If an entrant has satisfied the above conditions, the Grand Prize or the Finalist Prize, as applicable will be delivered to the address provided on the relevant entry form within thirty (30) days of receipt of the fully and correctly completed Release Form(s).
- In these guidelines, “Contest Organizers” refers to Food and Beverage Ontario (FBO) and its agencies.
- By entering the Contest, entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules with respect to all aspects of the Contest, as well as all rules of the relevant video sharing platform. The Contest Organizers shall be held harmless by you in the event that it is subsequently discovered that you have not fully complied with these Rules or the rules of the relevant video sharing platform.
- The Contest Organizers accept not responsibility for loss, damage, or claims caused by or resulting from the Contest or the Prizes. By entering, each finalist and winner consents to the use of his/her name, address (city and province), comments, photograph, and/or other likeness without further remuneration in connection with any publicity carried out by or on behalf of the Contest Organizers with respect to the Contest.
- All video submissions must be respectful and courteous, and in English or French or both. You are fully responsible for everything you submit, and all videos are intended for the general public. Therefore, to protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, do not include personal information such as phone numbers, social insurance numbers, banking information, resumes or email addresses in your video. Contest Organizers will not accept videos that are offensive to an individual or an organization, rude in tone, or abusive.
- Contest Organizers reserve the right to refuse any submissions containing:
- Racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting or life-threatening content
- Serious, unproven, unsupported, or inaccurate accusations against individuals or organizations
- Abusive, aggressive, coarse, explicit, vulgar, violent, obscene, or pornographic content
- Content that encourages or suggests illegal activity
- Announcements, solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any organizations and agencies
- Attempts to defame or defraud any individual, group or agency
- Anyone acting contrary to these rules may be temporarily or permanently excluded from the Contest’s spaces, accounts and channels, where applicable.
- The Contest Organizers reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest for any reason, without any prior notice to any contestant.
- The Contest Organizers will not be responsible for late, lost, illegible, falsified, incomplete, or destroyed entries, and all such entries will be void, and as well does not assume any responsibility for the incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information; any telephone, computer or network malfunction or error, whether technical or human in nature; printing errors; lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions; any omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects, or failures of any telephone or computer line or network, computer equipment, software, or any combination thereof; any communication disruption; or other forces beyond the reasonable control of the Contest Organizers.
- These rules may be changed without notice or reason including, if necessary, to comply with any applicable law. By entering this Contest, contestants acknowledge that the Contest Organizers shall not be responsible for any damages, costs, demands, claims or losses of any kind, incurred by any contestant as a result of participation in this Contest.
- This Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Ontario, and any applicable federal and municipal laws. These Rules govern all aspects of the Contest and are binding on all contestants and all other participants including parents, legal guardians and team members who sign the official entry form.
- This Contest is void where prohibited by law.
- In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including, social media posts, point of sale, television, print or online advertising, the terms and conditions of these Rules shall prevail, govern and control the Contest to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Contest Organizers’ failure to enforce any term of these Rules shall not constitute a waiver of the Rules. The decisions of the Contest Organizers are final and binding on all entrants without right of appeal.
